Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a website search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. Goochland County Criminal History does not retain or record those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
When you email us, the message is kept for the purpose of preparing and sending a response. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by a legal obligation. We do not otherwise provide the contents of the message to an outside party.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers receive a limited set of technical details when a website page loads:
- The date and time of each page view
- Your device's assigned IP address
- The referring website, when one is available
- Your browser type and version
- Pages viewed and the time spent on them
- Your operating system and device type
Cookies and Analytics
Small files known as cookies may be stored on your device. Along with analytics services, they help combine traffic information so we can understand which pages visitors use most and where visits tend to end. You may block cookies through your browser settings. If you do, some website functions may operate in a different way.

No Criminal-Record Data on File
Goochland County Criminal History does not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal-record information. It provides general directions for obtaining Goochland County records from the Goochland County Sheriff's Office, the local General District and Circuit courts, the Virginia Department of State Police Criminal Justice Information Services Division and its Central Criminal Records Exchange, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor data is not compiled into a consumer report or a record about another person.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes available on the website. Information submitted through a search box is covered by that provider's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider determines its own retention and disclosure practices, which are outside our control. Review the applicable provider policy before entering a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Goochland County Sheriff's Office, Virginia courts, state agencies, legal-aid resources, or third-party search services. Once you follow an external link, the destination website's privacy terms govern the visit. Check those terms before giving that website personal information.
Some advertising providers may follow activity across multiple websites to select targeted advertising. Their systems, not ours, conduct that tracking.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Data may be available to these limited recipients:
- Advertising networks that deliver ads on website pages
- Search providers that process queries submitted through their tools
- Government or law-enforcement authorities acting under a valid legal order
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and website performance
How We Protect Your Data
We use generally accepted safeguards for the information collected. No system connected to the internet can be guaranteed secure, however. Reasonable steps are taken to protect visitor data, but we cannot promise that a security incident will never occur.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor provided such information, we will remove it promptly after being notified.
Your Data Rights
Your location and the law that applies to you may provide additional control over personal information. In Virginia, public-record access is governed by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, Code of Virginia § 2.2-3700 et seq., while Code § 19.2-389 limits dissemination of criminal-history information held by the Central Criminal Records Exchange. Those statutes govern official records and do not make this privately operated website a government record custodian. At a minimum, you may:
- Request deletion of personal information we hold
- Ask for a copy of personal information kept about you
- Opt out of certain forms of data processing
- Request correction of inaccurate information
